This is a photograph of Jane Morris (1823-1901), taken around 1898, with six of her children and six grandchildren, plus a son-in-law and a daughter-in-law. If you run your mouse over, or close to, a face, the corresponding name will appear. The names were supplied by Olwen (Olwen Jane Sparrowhawk, née Davies), the daughter of Anne Catherine Morris who appears in the first photo below as a girl. Thanks to Evan Parry-Morris for a good scan of the original of the smaller group below, and for filling out missing details.

Jane was born Jane Pugh, and married Evan Morris in 1848. He died before he was forty, so Jane had been a widow for around thirty years when this was taken. Their children who appear in this picture are (oldest to youngest):

These are all the surviving children at the time. Four others - Anne, Richard, Elizabeth and another Anne - died young.

Jane appears as Jane Anderson. She married (London, 1873) Albert Anderson from Lanark, who was a policeman. He died in 1885.

Mary appears as Mary Jones, having married John H Jones, who also appears in the picture.

We also see William's wife Jane (née Roberts).

The youngest generation in the picture are the three children of Mary and John H Jones:

and the three children of William and Jane:

The second photo was evidently taken on the same occasion. It shows William Morris, his wife Jane, and their three children Mary Jane, Anne Catherine and Evan William.

Getting the whole family together must have been difficult. From the fact that almost everybody is dressed in rather fine but very dark clothing, we may probably deduce that the occasion was a funeral. From my records, I can't identify a relevant death in the period.
